Springers and Cockers

Although my family was involved in showing and breeding English Springers and Cockers, it was not until 1958 that I became involved and fell in love with the Doberman Pinscher. My first puppy was a real flyer, winning at matches and open shows. Venturing into the British championships shows was no different when Rebsha consistently won Reserve CC to the then reigning Top Dog, the famous Ch. Tavey’s Stormy Wrath.

Immigration to Canada in 1963 forced me to part with my three Dobes and an Afghan – a truly heart wrenching experience. After being in Canada for only six weeks I couldnt stand being without a Doberman and answered an ad in the newspaper¬† coming home with a nicely bred black bitch that I named “Wrath” in honor of our old rival. No amount of taping Springers and Cockers could convince her to lift one floppy ear, so the obedience ring became an alternative to conformation. Bred just once because of her fantastic temperament, she became the foundation for Wrath Dobermans. In the mid 60s she and her daughter set a whole new standard for the breed in the obedience ring and the two held Top Obedience Doberman honors for six consecutive years. During this time competition in the conformation ring was limited, but over 13 dogs completed their conformation titles, with many more completing obedience degrees, excelling with high scores and awards.

Since 1976, when Brian and I became partners in life as well as dogs, over 200 Canadian champions carry either the Wrath or Liberator prefix. These have included multi Best in Show, Specialty and High in Trial winners and dogs that have gone on to rank as #1 Doberman and in the Top 10 All Breeds. It was a particular thrill when Am/Can Ch Liberators Mercedes was named Top Working Dog, the first time a bitch had ever won this award. Our dogs have succeeded in the show rings of the United States and are credited with 25 American champions in very limited showing since 1987. And, in a ten year period, were proud to have the distinction of having bred three dogs that have gone on to be awarded Winners Dog at the DPCA National Specialty, and two Superior Quality Specimens (mother and son) – owner handled by Brian.

Im proud to have been honored as a Life Member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada and have served in many capacities, including President, Vice-President, Director, Chapter Club Secretary and Show Secretary. Ive enjoyed several sweepstakes judging assignments but my main enjoyment is the challenge of breeding beautiful dogs that conform to the standard.

I believe that you learn something new every day and with every litter and am honored to be part of this distinguished panel in the learning process.
