I have a confession. I am 40 years old, and I LOVE playing video games. I’m a gamer and proud of it. Give me Assassin’s Creed or Red Dead Redemption, and you won’t see me for weeks. But, at the same time, I grew up in the era of video game birth. Atari and Colecovision were parts of my childhood, and I haven’t forgotten them. Having a game room is an important part of my life.
And I am not the only one. Homeowners all over are trying to recreate their childhood by turning one room of their house into a game room. Some have even turned these rooms into a museum of sorts by adding their favorite classic games. I am all for this idea. So, I often find myself searching for old school arcade machines.
Fill the entire room with gaming goodies
If I had my way, I would fill an entire room with Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Star Wars, and Dig Dug. You can never go wrong with the classics. Everyone loves them. Your house would be full of people having a good time, all of the time. Thank goodness you can have the machines play for free, or all of us arcade lovers would be broke in no time at all!
Of course, you’d have to provide a sitting area for your game loving friends. Plush leather couches, big-screen TVs, and a fully operational bar are great additions to any game room. When your friends and family come over, you want them to stay. So go ahead and create an environment where they will come to relax, have fun, and spend time with each other. And don’t forget.
If you have kids and need some “me-time,” a game room filled with Asteroids, Defender, Tempest, and Centipede will keep them out of your hair for hours. You can finally finish that novel or bake those cookies you’ve been putting off forever.
There are so many different arcade machines that you are sure to find the exact one, or most probably more than one game you have been looking for. The games of your childhood aren’t out of reach. Many retailers specialize in bringing these fun and fabulous games to the masses.
One of the perks of purchasing one or more of these coin-operated arcade games is that if you are fortunate enough to have a showroom close by, you can wander in and try out all the games before you buy. You know, do it for research purposes!
There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel like a kid again. So go ahead, blast that bad 80’s music and sport really big hair. Pull up a stool, sit down and give your thumbs a workout. Just don’t forget to come up for a little sunshine once in a while.
